MINI-COURSES

Our list of self-directed mini-courses are provided for educators to complete at a time and place that meets their needs. Each course will take roughly 3-5 hours to complete and will provide opportunity for reflection, sharing, and even some special surprises along the way. Digital Educator Start-Up Kit

In Central Okanagan Public Schools, educators make use of a wide variety of technology applications to support student learning. This Digital Educator Starter Kit will provide you an overview of foundational applications such as: the SD23 Dashboard, Office 365, and MyEdBC, as well as important information around Privacy & Security, the ins and outs of your district laptop, how to reach out for help, and a deeper understanding of our district’s vision on the role of technology in education.

Designing Hybrid Learning

In this self-paced course we will focus on some of the unique challenges for designing hybrid learning that is engaging for students while also reflecting on those silver linings. You will be provided with resources, ideas, and essential questions to help guide you in a hybrid model that meets the needs of all of your learners.

Engaging Screenshots

In 'Engaging Screencasts' we'll explore various tools that can be leveraged to create engaging lesson videos for students of all ages. In addition, we'll focus on how these videos can support content and competency development, can be made interactive, and how they can be incorporated into any face-to-face or hybrid learning environment by using 'flipped learning' principles. The course will involve a number of design challenges and participants will leave with a skill set they can immediately use heading into the new school year.

Digital Wellness

Education about Digital Wellness is an emerging concept and shared responsibility that has wide-reaching implications for learners, schools and communities. This self-paced digital course will focus on the 5 elements of SD23’s Digital Wellness Framework (Practice Mindfulness, Think Critically, Explore Learning, Spread Positivity, Be Safe). Participants will reflect personally on their own digital wellness, and also consider how they might bring this learning into the classroom for their students.

GSuite Certification

You've spent the time growing your GSuite skills, now get certified to be recognized for the work you've done. Google offers two educator certifications so that you can show mastery at the level that's right for you. Use the content in the GSuite teacher center and your own teaching experience to best prepare you for the performance-based exams. Once you feel adequately prepared, exams are available online and the educator certifications can be achieved at any time. Please note that the Learning Technology Department will reimburse you for your exam costs.

Digital Portfolios

Digital Portfolios provide students an opportunity to make their learning visible, to celebrate their strengths and help identify their next steps in learning. In addition, it a place where students, parents, and teachers can work together to support and foster student learning. In this course we will spend time anchoring in our district's criteria for quality communication of student learning. We will explore why digital portfolios are beneficial, discuss potential design and implementation considerations, and finally with our purpose firmly in our mind present some options around digital portfolio tools.
